This week I'm starting on Robert's Rebellion, which was a Rebellion against house Targaryen. It all started with the Tourney at Harrenhal, held by Lord Whent. Noble people from all around were invited to the Riverlands for the festivities. The King himself, Aerys Targaryen, even came and that was a luxury since he hadn't left the safety of The Red Keep in years. The beginning of the Tourney was a happy affair because spring had come. During the tourney the Kingsguard added its newest member, Ser Jaime Lannister. The ending was less exciting, after winning a joust, Prince Rhaegar Targaryen gave his favor not to his wife, Elia Martell, but Lyanna Stark.
Sometime after the tourney, Lyanna was abducted by Prince Rhaegar. Brandon Stark, hearing of his sister's capture, abandoned his own wedding in Riverrun and rode with his companions Elbert Arryn (heir to the Eyrie), Kyle Royce, and Jeffroy Mallister to the Red Keep. Once there, Brandon ordered Rhaegar to come out and die, but he wasn't there. The King then had Brandon and his companions arrested for saying he was going to murder the prince. Areys summoned the fathers of those who stood accused. Rickard Stark brought two hundred men with him as well. They were all killed, the prisoners, the fathers, all the men who went south, All except Ethan Glover. Brandon was strangled as he watched his father, Rickard , be suspended above a blazing fire and be cooked alive. Aerys then called for the heads of Robert, Lyanna's betrothed and Eddard (Ned) Stark. They were both in the Eyrie with Jon Arryn, whom refused to give them up and raised the Vale against the King, thus starting the Rebellion.

The Dothraki- Barbaric horse lords who roam Essos. The Brave Companions- A Sellsword company lead by Vargo Hoat. Often called the Bloody Mummers...behind their back. The Brotherhood without Banners- A group of Outlaws, Knights, and runaway soldiers, Headed by an outlaw Lord Beric Dondarrion. The Faceless Men- Men who serve the god of death, known as the Stranger. The Free Cities- Nine major Cities in Essos, That Govern themselves. They are Braavos, Lorath, Lys, Myr, Norvos, Pentos, Qohor, Tyrosh, and Volantis. Sellsword Companies- Companies of soldiers who lend their swords to a cause for money. The Free Folk- The people who live North of the wall. They aren't governed by anyone but themselves. The laws stop at the wall. They're called wildlings by the Nights Watch. The wildings mostly have petty conflicts between themselves or the watch, but most of the time they are just tall talkers and have even been known to trade with the watch. Everyone once in a while a wildling bands all the free folk together to ride against the nights watch naming him the "King beyond the Wall." The Others/Wights- The others, or "white walkers" are a mysterious humanoid species that live north of the wall. At the beginning of the story they haven't been seen for 8,000 years. The Others have the eerie power of anything they kill coming back to be their servants...bear, human, giant any sentient being who falls before a white walker rises to be a wight. That is the end of the who's who thing because I could go on forever all you need to know is there are many more houses and factions. Starting next week I'll start with Roberts Rebellion. House Frey- House Frey is an extremely important house in Westeros. Their seat of power is a pair of identical castles on either side of a river with a bridge spanning them. The castles are known as the twins. They don't rule over any other lords, but they have a strategic advantage of having a large close knit family and being a shortcut across a wide river in the Riverlands. They aren't a main focus in the story, but they have a large army and are key supporters for anyone who gains them as allies. There are many characters from House Frey, but the only inportant one is Lord Walder Frey, who is past 90 years old. He has over 29 true born sons and daughters and an countless number of based born children and even more grandchildren and great grandchildren. Their sigil is two blue towers united by a bridge on a feild of grey. House Bolton- House Bolton is an important house in Westeros. Their seat of power is known as The Dread Fort. They don't rule over any other lords, but they are the most feared house in the north, were they reside, and all of Westeros. They aren't a main focus of the story, but have a large army and all fear them. There are only two important characters from House Bolton and those are Roose and his base born child Ramsay. Their sigil is a flayed man on a field of pink. Their official house words are "our blades are sharp." but another Bolton motto is " A flayed man holds no secrets." The Nights Watch- The Nights Watch isn't a house of Westeros but an ancient military order dedicated to holding the Wall, a 700 foot tall and 300 mile wide...wall of ice.The men of the nights watch wear all black and range from proud knights to the lowest of the low, once you say their sacred oath there is no leaving, you're there for life. Their Oath is "Night gathers, and now my watch begins. It shall not end until my death. I shall take no wife, hold no lands, father no children. I shall wear no crowns and win no glory. I shall live and die at my post. I am the sword in the darkness. I am the watcher on the walls. I am the fire that burns against the cold, the light that brings the dawn, the horn that wakes the sleepers, the shield that guards the realms of men. I pledge my life and honor to the Night's Watch, for this night and all the nights to come." The Nights watch has nineteen Castles alongside the wall, in its prime everyone of them was manned and ready, but at the time of the story only three remain garrisoned...poorly. One of the three that remain are Eastwatch-by-the-sea, a trading post castle manned by less than 200. Another is the Shadow Tower, the western one. Finally the one right in the middle is Castle Black the largest (that is still garrisoned). The watches job is to stop wildlings, or whatever other devilish things live in the haunted forest or, the land of always winter. (Side note: The watch is my favorite part of the story. I would totally join them if it were real.) House Tully- House Tully is a main house in Westeros. Their seat of power is Riverrun. They rule the smaller houses in the Riverlands. They aren't a main focus in the story, but they have an important PoV character. The main characters of House Tully are Catelyn, Edmure, Lysa, Brynden, and Hoster. Their sigil is a silver trout on a field of striped red and blue. Their words are " Family, Duty, Honor." House Tyrell- House Tyrell is an important house in Westeros. Their seat of power is Highgarden. They aren't great rulers, but are the overlords of the Reach (which is a Southern region of Westeros.). They are important, but thus far have no PoV characters. The main Characters in this house are Margaery, Loras, Mace, and Olenna. Their sigil is a golden rose on a field of green. Their words are "Growing strong." House Arryn- House is an important house in Westeros. Their seat of power is the Eyrie ( a string of Castles on a mountain, is said to be impregnable.). They are the chief nobles of the Vale. They are important, but also have no PoV characters. The main characters in this house are Jon, Robert, and Lysa. Their sigil is a silver moon and falcon on a field of blue. Their words are "As High as Honor." House Greyjoy- House Greyjoy is a smaller ancient house in Westeros, but still insanely important. Their seat of Power is Pyke. They rule the smaller houses on the Iron Islands. They are a main focus of the story as well. The main characters of House Greyjoy are Theon, Asha, Victarion, Euron, Balon, and Aeron. Their sigil is a golden kraken on a field of black. Their words are "We Do Not Sow." House Targaryen- House Targaryen is a banished house from Westeros, they used to be the rulers until they were Usurped by the Baratheons during Robert's Rebellion. Their seats of Power were Dragonstone and Kings Landing, They Ruled the Entire Kingdom and the Crownlands from those locations. They are also a main focus of the story. The main characters of House Targaryen are Viserys, Daenerys, Aerys, Young Griff, Aemon, and Rheagar. Their sigil is a red three headed dragon on a field of black. Their House words are "Fire and Blood." House Martell- House Martell is a main house in Westeros. They were founded by Mors Martell and Nymeria of the Rhoynar. Their seat of Power is Sunspear. They rule the smaller houses in the deserty south coast of Westeros called Dorne. They aren't a main focus in the story, but there are a few PoV characters in Dorne. The main characters in House Martell are Doran, Oberyn, Arianne, Quentyn, And all of the Base born children given the name Sand. Their sigil is a red sun pierced by a yellow spear on a field of orange. Their words are "Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken."
This is my first post on this blog. With it I'm just going to explain what I'll be posting on here every week. I'll be posting something about "a Song of Ice and fire." Written by George R.R. Martin. These are the books that the Tv show "Game of Thrones." Is based off of. I'll be covering ,starting next week (maybe a little on this post) , pretty much a complete history of the series, or at least all of what I know about it (which is a lot) because I'm a big nerd for it. To be more precise everything from right before Robert's Rebellion to (if this assignment lasts long enough) the end of "A Dance with Dragons." If i finish all of that, I'll probably just give speculation on how I think "Winds of Winter." will play out. Thats pretty much how things will play out on this blog.
Before I start talking about the Series as a whole I should warn anyone who reads this that I'm a bit biased towards some characters, because they're my favorite characters and even if they're horrible people who do horrible things I'll still shine a light on them just because I respect their...Evilness. I mean not all of my favorite characters are bad most of them are completely in the grey area. |
